Why I love Jessica Zemken

Jessica Zemken, 23, the first woman to win an ASCS A-Main event in the 25 year history of the nationwide sprint car organization, didn't have a good night at Fonda Speedway on Saturday due to last minute brake problems, but she tore up the track on Sunday night in the SUNY Canton Series 25-lap A-Main at Utica-Rome. I wish I had been there! Here's the press release from Empire Super Sprints:

Zemken Uses Late Race Pass to Win ESS Main at Utica

VERON, N.Y. – Jessica Zemken had to overcome a lot of disappointment on Saturday night after her car lost brakes prior to the start of the A-Main at Fonda Speedway. She wanted to win one for her hometown fans.

On Sunday night, many of those same fans rose to their feet as Zemken made a daring three-wide pass to take the lead for the first time and then as she drove to the bottom of turn three to retake the lead in slower traffic on final lap to win her second career Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprint SUNY Canton Series 25-lap A-Main.

“We had a really bad night last night,” said Zemken. “We really wanted that one because Fonda (Speedway) is our home track. We didn’t even get to start the race last night and that was disappointing, but to come out here tonight and win at a track we’ve struggled a little bit at is awesome."

(Read the rest after the jump, it's worth it!)

D.A.R.E. Car Show, Sunday, June 14th, North Blenheim NY

Drag Racer at Dare Show

This will be Red Bear's third year at the excellent DARE Car Show held at the NY Power Authority's Visitor Center in No. Blenheim, NY in Schoharie County. The show benefits Drug Abuse Resistance Education, and is sponsored by Dead End Cruizers car club.

It's a beautiful location for a car show, and a great group of people. There are amazing cars on display, and plenty of food vendors and activities for kids. Also, Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s #88 National Guard Car will be on display if all goes according to plan and music will be provided by K-Man.

I will be selling Red Bear Hand Cleaner and giving away free samples, and I’m pretty certain that if you mention this blog post there will be some special show pricing available.

If you are anywhere in the area, please come to the show, and stop by my table.

The photo above is from my first year at the show. I'm thoughtfully inspecting a drag racer, wondering what a Red Bear logo would look like right there on the side.

For more info call the DARE line at (518) 295-2270.

Follow the jump to see the flyer:

ESS Logo

SYRACUSE, NY – The long off-season is now a memory, the practice and preparations are recorded…It’s time for the battle to the Lucas Cup and over $30,000 in point funds!  The 2009 racing season for the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints (ESS) is set for this weekend and what better way to celebrate the troops that gave the ultimate goal with a pair of $2,000 to win events.

Memorial Day Weekend will see the stars and cars from ESS attack the fast half-mile ovals of the Fonda and Utica-Rome Speedways.  Two tracks just about one hour apart makes for a great opening weekend with big car counts expected as the 26th Anniversary Tour will be kicking off.

Steve Poirier is ready to defend his championship but the list of names looking to knock off the now two-time champion is a who’s who.  Lance Yonge, Michael Parent, Jeff Cook, Tim Kelly, Chuck Hebing, Brian McDonald, Tommy Wickham, Anthony Cain and many, many more.

For the first time ever, the “Track of Champions” not only will be kicking off the ESS point season but also the champion will be crowned in September as well.  The track that is rich in history as been very good to Justin Barger as he won the last two ESS events held.  Local favorites such as Cory Sparks, Jessica Zemken, Warren Alexson and Matt Demitraszek will be there for their local fans to cheer on.

Jason Herrington and his family owned Herrington Farms is backing the A-Main and is also adding to the pot making each heat race $100 to win as well.

A special pre-race car show will take place at the dash sponsor Winner’s Circle Restaurant located on Rt. 5 a mere few minutes from the track.  Anthony Cain and Jessica Zemken will have their sprints on hand and even though they are on the injury mend, Jami Russell and Mike Bush will also have their sprints for display from noon to three.

Team Bergeron at Albany-Saratoga Speedway

Third place for Alain Bergeron at Malta …

Red Bear went up to Albany-Saratoga, our first time at the track, met up with Team Bergeron, and had a fun night despite the dramatic lightening and rain delay.

Red Bear & Alain Bergeron

Saint-Pie, QC … After the rainout at Black Rock Speedway last weekend, the ASCS Patriot's season began at Malta last night at Albany-Saratoga Speedway at Malta NY. There was a bit of a rain delay, but that didn't stop the Patriot's from having a fantastic night.

Alain Bergeron and his team started the season very well with a third place finish in the A-Main event. Bergeron started the evening with a win in his heat race.  It was a third straight win in heat races at Albany-Saratoga Speedway.

Bergeron was a bit disappointed as he went for the win, starting fifth on the starting grid, but the car became a bit too tight. However, it was a good night a great season opener for the driver.
